Former Texas standout Mike Cotten died Saturday after a brief illness, the university announced Sunday. He was 84.Cotten went 17-4-1 as the starting quarterback between 1959-61 and also played defensive back during his Longhorns’ career.Cotten guided Texas to a 10-1 record and No. 3 final ranking in 1961. The Longhorns qualified for the Cotton Bowl and beat Ole Miss 12-7 with Cotten named the game’s most outstanding player.
