World renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has passed away. He was 76.

Not only a physicist, Hawking was also an author, an astronomer, and a mathematician. His book, A Brief History of Time, was released in 1988 and has sold more than 10 million copies since its release.

Hawking was a force in popular culture, as well, making appearances on TV shows like The Simpsons and Big Bang Theory, according to CNN.

Hawking is survived by his three children.
