Actor R. Lee Ermey, who’s best known for his role as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, has passed away. He was 74.
Ermey’s manager, Bill Rogin, confirmed the actor’s death in a statement, which was posted on Facebook:
Ermey began his acting career after eleven years of service in the military. One of his first acting credits was Apocalypse Now. Eight years later, Ermey starred in Full Metal Jacket, which garnered the actor a Golden Globe nomination.
In addition to his appearances in Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket, Ermey also starred in Se7en, Toy Story, Saving Silverman, and more.
Ermey is survived by his wife, Nila, and four children.
