Linkin Park releasing a new song should be big news, right? Well, it is, if the big news is that the song doesn’t sound anything like Linkin Park.

Earlier today, Linkin Park’s new song, ‘Heavy,’ was released to the masses and, if fans had expected the band to return to their roots, they were definitely disappointed.

Obviously, Linkin Park has transformed themselves quite a bit since the release of their debut album, ‘Hybrid Theory,’ and that transformation continues with the release of ‘Heavy.’

According to Spin, ‘Heavy’ was written by Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, who have also penned hits for the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Maroon 5, among others.

With the success of a band like Twenty One Pilots, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that the band went in this direction, but it still sucks for those of us hoping for a return to the Linkin Park of old.

Who knows, though. This is only one song. Maybe the rest of the album kicks ass.

Wishful thinking, I know. Linkin Park’s new album, ‘One More Light,’ will be released on May 19th.
